Lennon Monyae is an accomplished career diplomat with a robust academic foundation in International Relations and Politics. Holding a Master’s Degree in International Relations from the prestigious University of Witwatersrand, South Africa, he currently pursues his doctoral studies at the esteemed University of Johannesburg. In 2017, Lennon transitioned into the role of Researcher at the African Peer Review Mechanism Continental Secretariat, a specialized agency of the African Union (AU). Established in 2003 under the auspices of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), the APRM serves as a pivotal instrument for sharing insights, reinforcing exemplary practices, identifying gaps, and evaluating capacity building requirements. It is dedicated to cultivating policies, standards, and practices conducive to political stability, robust economic growth, sustainable development, and enhanced sub-regional and continental economic integration across Africa.
At the APRM Continental Secretariat, Mr. Monyae spearheads the organization of the APRM International Youth Symposium and fosters civil society engagements. His leadership has been instrumental in successfully orchestrating the Ist, 2nd, and 3rd editions of the Symposium in N’djamena, Chad (2019), Nairobi, Kenya (2021), and Uganda (2022), respectively. Noteworthy contributions include his pivotal role in the 2nd Generation APRM Country Reviews of the Republic of Uganda (2018) and the Republic of Namibia’s Targeted Review on Youth Unemployment (2019).
Driven by a profound commitment to the Pan-African philosophy, Lennon Monyae has dedicated his professional journey to advancing good governance across the African continent. Beyond his tenure at the APRM, he has actively engaged in various initiatives, including volunteering with numerous NGOs and Non-Profit Organizations, spearheading fundraising endeavors, and raising awareness through impactful campaigns. In addition to his professional endeavors, Mr. Monyae is a prolific author, with numerous book chapters, journal articles, and newspaper features to his credit, focusing on themes pertinent to African democracy and good governance. Outside his professional pursuits, he channels his passion for endurance sports as a professional cyclist, having successfully completed challenging events such as the Race to the Sun and various marathons.
